Burberry won't let anyone rain on their parade at London Fashion Week

Burberry Prorsum kicked off their AW12 show in a celebrity filled tent situated in Hyde Park, with affiliated models Rosie Huntington Whitley and Eddie Redmayne taking their place on the front row alongside Mario Testino, Alexa Chung, Clemence Poesy and Kate Bosworth.

Clearly inspired by the rural landscapes of the British countryside, the models hit the catwalk in heritage tweed, with flat cap accessories and top coats galore. Waists were accentuated with colourful leather bow belts as well as some fantastic gold fox headed belts. The statement coats continued to thrill in an array of fabrics (velvet, wool and suede) and a range of lengths, from the glorious long trenches featuring saddlebag pockets to the cropped silk bomber jackets. Fur accents appeared on collared herringbone coats, and double breasted jackets featured oversized lapels and button down detailing. Riding jackets were embellished with touches of corduroy, handsome military style coats were tailored to perfection, and peplums appeared on dress coats. Not usually a fan of anything puffa-related, even I found myself swooning over the tonic striped down filled coat. Stripes were shown in sublte reds, blues and autumnal shades of greens and browns.

Animal heads graced clutch bags and knitwear as well as belts, with illustrated and beaded owls appearing on cream jumpers, tucked into blue and tan striped, flared skirts. Outfits were accessorized with barrel bags, retro sunglasses and colourful patterned driving gloves, which also came studded in black. Slouchy, Victoriana style lace up boots were worn over grey ribbed tights and married with knee length rouch fronted skirts with white, billowing sleeved shirts tucked in at the waist. Folded detailing and waterfall fronted coats created dreamy shapes amongst the super tailored garments, along with layered fringing on skirts and blanket quilting on trench coats.

The closing coat was a simple, velveteen purple quilted blanket dress coat which made all the girls in the office let out an audible sigh, but it was the grand finale that became the highlight of our week, with water cascading over the top of the tent and models re-appearing under a burst of silver ticker tape with umbrellas that matched the collection, showing us all how to stay fashionable in the rain.
