Van Der Ham didn't fail to deliver. As always we saw his signature patchwork techniques out in full force giving that creative, innovative and unique fashionable feel. Instead of the usual modern pastels, plain textures and colour contrast materials we've seen the designer employ in previous collections which earned him his well deserved merit, this season saw reference to an eclectic era quoting 1930s Hollywood pin up actresses as an area of inspiration.
Textures spanned abstract marbled prints, crushed velvet, patterned silks, metallic wool, sheer chiffons flecked with sparkle, shimmering jacquard and embellished lace. Colours kept to a warm winter pallete of gold, rust, burnt orange navy blue turquoise and black.
Michael Van Der Ham's trademark of multi fabricated dress was taken to another level today; where previous collections had a crafty put together mis-match feel, the Autumn Winter 2012 offering screamed of succinct sophistication and was clearly well thought out from beginning to end. From casual knitted compositions, to shimmering metallic separates and one pieces that were made to look like two pieces, all items within Van Der Ham's collection had an ultra wearable feel. The collection ended on a series of heavily embellished dresses which referneced vintage with transparity. Check the show out for yourself in the video below!
