With Milan Fashion Week riding on the coat tails of London Fashion Week, we've barely had chance to stop for air, however, Gucci managed to freeze us in our tracks yesterday with a vibrant, colour filled SS13 collection.

Frida Giannini ensured all eyes were on her as she kicked off Milan Fashion Week with a powerful show, embracing a bold colour palette of fuchsia pink, citrus yellow and a variety of blue hues that certainly keep the audience awake! In terms of colour, there was no room for subtlety; even the
luxurious snakeskin pieces reflected the tone.

Despite the edge that the punchy, block colours provided, the collection felt incredibly sophisticated (come on, it is Gucci after all) with the silhouettes taking a distinctly Sixties turn. Simple cut tunics and humble, loose fitting tops were transformed with flouncing, billowing sleeves, dramatic high necks, belted waists and oversized collars. Trousers were elegantly flared and teamed with colour matching shirts, shoes and accessories, resulting in a striking head-to-toe look.

Although many of the full length gowns appeared demure from the front, featuring either sleeves or rolled necks, from the back they exuded a rather different vibe - skirts were split to the back of the knee and backs were exposed for provocation. Keyhole cuts were also used to create allure, featuring on Eastern inspired print shift dresses and revealing just the right amount of skin at the bust. Heavily encrusted detailing shone from almost half of the collection, with brightly coloured gems and floral inspired embroidery adorning necklines. Where necks appeared bare, matching chandelier earrings and ombre sunglasses came into play, giving the look a polished yet playful finish.

The show finished on a sombre monochrome note, with sleek evening pieces ranging from a black shift dress with a sheer honeycomb top and billowing organza sleeves, and a white floor length gown with waves of fabric acting as ¾ sleeves and a plunging v-shape neckline.
