Maison Martin Margiela AW12 at Haute Couture Fashion Week

Throughout the course of Haute Couture Fashion Week we have seen quite a few designers use face coverings as part of their collections. At Giambattista Valli web-like veils were attached with butterflies, while at Armani Prive models wore sheer coverings over their heads that were embellished with jewels. At the Maison Martin Margiela Autumn / Winter 2012 couture show, the avant garde fashion house used full head masks encrusted with giant colourful crystals.

The sparkly face masks were not only a bold statement they were just one part of an eclectic collection which combined various fabrics, and vintage styles. Reconstructed trousers, blouses and tuxedo jackets were created from lace and sheer panelling. Margiela's patchwork continued with stitched up leather, floor-length silky evening dresses, spider web diamond encrusted halterneck tops, and long trench coats created from bold prints and intricate patterns.
But the stand-outs amongst this collection were the crystal-embellished headdresses. They will not be easily forgotten. It is something you can bet that Lady Gaga will be queuing up to order all ready.
