Hot on the heels of Elie Saab and Basil Soda, Zuhair Murad is another Lebanese designer making waves in the world of haute couture. With celebrity fans as diverse as Jennifer Lopez, Blake Lively and Miley Cyrus, he's the man to go to for curve-hugging, showstopping glamour with a traditional feel.
His Autumn / Winter 2012 Couture show was a predictable mix of lacy confections with full skirts and embellished flower detail, and slinky silk gowns with plunge necklines in jewel colours.
Where many other designs at Haute Couture Fashion Week chose a muted palette, Murad did not follow suit, and this show was a riot of colour in comparison. Purple and teal were the key shades, followed by plenty of red and lots of black and cream.
With the exception of the odd pair of slim lace trousers, this was almost exclusively a 'dress' show, concentrating on the sexy but timeless gowns the designer does so well, punctuated by some frou-frou ballet length cocktail dresses full of texture and lace in lemon, black and red.
Throw in the occasonal peplum, a little velvet and many a cinch waist, and you have the makings of a collection that won't push boundaries but will appear on every red carpet going in the coming months.
